Fire Excitement

On Sunday, we went to an event called "Touch A Truck".  There was a big parking lot full of fire trucks, tow trucks, ambulances, police cars, and a school bus.  (Basically anything with a siren.)  Lily got to see them up close and even sit in the driver's seat of some of them.  (All the pictures are on Grandma's camera, so I don't have any to share.)  Take my word for it, she had lots of fun!

Little did we know that we'd get to see a fire truck at OUR HOUSE on the same day!  After dinner, the sky was turning a funny color due to a storm on the way.  Matt likes to look at that stuff, so he opened our front door to check things out.  The wind was REALLY strong and there was a funny smokey smell in the air.  The next time Matt looked out the front door he saw one of our bushes on fire!

As he went to get the hose, a neighbor came rushing over with a bucket because he wasn't sure if we were home.  Thank goodness we were, because it could have spread to our other bushes and our tree and who knows where else!

As Matt was hosing down the bush, another one of ours started smoldering.  Then we saw smoke start at the base of a neighbor's tree.  Crazy!  We thought maybe there was something underground or a gas leak or something, so we called the fire department.

They came and checked things out, but didn't have to do much, since Matt had already put everything out.  They said it was a combination of the heat and wind that caused our mulch to catch fire.  They checked for electrical or gas issues but didn't find anything.   I guess it's pretty common for this to happen to mulch, especially when it gets really compact and really hot.

So fortunately, there were no injuries or major damage.  Just a little bit of excitement for about a half hour.  And a good opportunity for fun photos with Lily :)

The firemen gave Lily a plastic hat and suggested this photo.  She may have discovered her future career!

Mother's Day

Mother's Day was very nice and relaxing this year.  We celebrated at Nana and Grandpa's house.  The weather great for grilling and playing outside.  I was hoping I'd get the present of delivering my second baby, but no such luck.  "Pumpkin" is 38 weeks and still happily "cooking" in my belly.

Again, Lily helped open presents

Grandma's Birthday

Grandma's Birthday was the weekend before Mother's Day.  Since my due date is coming soon and I can't travel, Grandma and Papa came to our house to celebrate.  Uncle Matt came in for the weekend to celebrate too!  (sorry I didn't get any pictures of him)

Lily loves birthdays and was happy to help Grandma blow out her candles and open her presents.

Lily's first time eating "Yellow and White Cake".  It's a special family recipe that I tried making for the first time.  It didn't look as pretty as Mom's, but it still tasted good.

Lily was in a cheesy/goofy mood while we tried to take pictures.  It's a good image of her current personality.  She is a happy and funny 2 year old.

Recent Pics

No major events to blog about.  I just have some cute and recent pictures of Lily.  Lily is in pajamas in most of these pictures, so you can tell we've been spending lots of time around the house.  The weather isn't nice enough to play outside and pregnant Mommy doesn't have much energy.  I've got 5 weeks left (hopefully less) until the baby arrives.  We are enjoying our final days as a family of 3.  It kind of feels like the calm before the storm.  When I have moments of peace and quiet (and when Lily lets me catch a nap) I make sure I enjoy them because there won't be many moments like that once baby arrives.

Lily wearing Mommy's boots.  She had them on her hands before this pic, which was even cuter.

We got a new stroller for the 2 kids.  It's a "sit and stand" stroller, so it's normal for the baby, but Lily has the option to either sit or stand.  She had fun helping Daddy put it together and took it for a test drive around the house.  The next day we used it when we went shopping so Lily and I could have some practice using it.  She really liked it and I'm hoping the novelty doesn't wear off too quickly.  It's a battle to get her to stay strapped in her other stroller because she wants to walk in the store.  Too bad her "walking" is actually "running away from me" so she must stay constrained.

March Pictures

Pretty Lily in her purple coat.  She's getting to be such a big girl :)

When the weather is bad, I love to go to take Lily to the mall.  I push Lily in the stroller and do a few laps with the "mall-walkers".  Then Lily gets to play in the little kid area they have.  She's finally stable enough so I can just sit on the side and watch, instead of follow her around and help.  It's nice!

We tried visiting the Easter Bunny, but Lily was too scared to sit on his lap.  I think this was as close as she got to him.  She was brave enough to give a high five!
Once away from the bunny, she was fine with me taking her picture with the big eggs and bunny statue.

Dying Easter Eggs for the first time with BF Madison

Counting to make sure she got them all

I guess the egg hunt wore her out.  Had to take a nap with Daddy on the floor.
He makes a good pillow :)

Lily and Mommy (and Pumpkin in my belly).  She's wearing the dress I made a few weeks ago!  Thank goodness it fits and she'll get at least one wearing.

Celebrated at Nana and Grandpa's house

Grandma and Papa were there too

After dinner, the weather was nice so she got to play in the yard with Daddy.  What kid doesn't love bubbles??
